Emma’s post has me thinking of my days as a self-publisher of crime fiction novels in the late 1990’s/early 2000s. Back then, my co-authored novels with my wife (as Cathie John) weren’t considered to be “real novels” because we didn’t have an agent and our novels weren’t printed by a “real publisher”. That is, until our work received a strong review by The Chicago Tribune.
